Learning Curves play a major but often unrecognized role in manufacturing. When training an employee, coaching a workcell team or developing policy for a major business unit, Learning Curves are in the background. The Learning Curve has major implications for Manufacturing Strategy, Marketing Strategy and even finance.
Continuous Improvement is a Lean application of Learning Curves. "Learning" does not have to end as a product matures. And, like compound interest, the cumulative effect over time can be highly significant.
Our latest web page reviews Learning Curve Concepts with minimal math and an emphasis on cause and effect. A subsequent article will discuss practical application with workcells and work teams. Then, a final article will examine the critical, long-range application to Manufacturing Strategy and Marketing Strategy.
We can also guide and facilitate your Manufacturing Strategy development. Please call me if you would like to talk further and explore the possibilities.
